2 arrested for breaking into ex-sprinter’s home

MIRI: Two burglars, who broke into the house of former national sprinter Watson Nyambek at Kampung Lusut here a month ago, were detained yesterday.

The duo, aged 18 and 19, was picked up by a team of personnel from the Miri Criminal Investigation department (CID), led by Inspector Fredly Juing, in two separate raids.

According to Miri deputy police chief Supt Mohd Sabri Zainol, the first arrest was made around 8.15am while the second suspect was detained about half an hour later.

“They were detained inside their respective houses at Kampung Lusut and Kampung Sungai Dalam here,” he said.

On December 30 last year, at around 1.30pm, Watson’s house was broken into and several items including two laptops were stolen.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the laptops had been traded for drugs by the suspects.

The case is investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking.
