PADAWAN: Two brothers were killed while seven others, including two children, sustained injuries following a two-vehicle collision along Jalan Batu Kawa last night (Dec 7).

The fatal accident involving a Toyota Mark X and Proton Iswara, happened in front of Paragon factory around 11.30pm.

Padawan OCPD Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad in a statement identified the deceased as Giggs Fowler Ronnie, 25 who was driving the vehicle and Andreas Mauler Ronnie, 23 who was seated in the back seat of the same vehicle.

The two victims were among seven riding in the Iswara with two men aged 23 and 25, a 22-year-old woman and two boys aged two and four while a 21-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman were in the other vehicle.

“Initial investigations found that the accident happened when the Iswara travelling from MJC to Malihah collided with the Toyota which is believed to have swerved into the opposite direction.

“The impact caused the two victims to be trapped in the Iswara and the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) were called in to extricate the victims.

“Both were pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics and their bodies were taken to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for post-mortem,” he said.

The remaining victims who sustained bodily injuries were rushed to SGH for immediate treatment.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Meanwhile, those driving on Jalan Batu Kawa from Moyan-Bau to MJC especially in the area in front of the Paragon factory have been advised to drive carefully with a maximum speed limit of 50km/h.

“Upgrading works are still ongoing, thus causing the road to be bumpy.

“In the past two days, three accidents have occurred in the area including the fatal accident,” he said.

Road users are also told to be patient and concentrate on their driving to ensure their own safety and other road users.
