KUCHING: Twenty participants attended the inaugural ‘Lean Implementation Workshop for Managers’ organised by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) at Hilton Hotel here, yesterday.

According to Sarawak MITI Director, Griffith Jones Goba, the workshop is introduced this year and Sarawak is the first state to organise it.

“The objective of the programme is to boost the implementation of Lean Management Systems in organisations in the state in an effort to support the state government’s intention.

“I am pleased to inform that the number of participants in this workshop today is exceeding our initial target and this is an indication of the organisation’s commitment to excellence in Sarawak.

“It is hoped that with the implementation of lean later, Sarawak will produce excellent organisations which can be used as a benchmark in Malaysia,” he pointed out.

Lean Management System is a special weapon to eradicate wastage. It is also a powerful weapon that has propelled Japan’s leading car manufacturers to become the world’s leading manufacturers.

“Accordingly, I propose that the organisation intends to look at Lean practices in its homeland Japan, to participate in a learning mission programme organised by MPC Sarawak.

“Lean learning mission to Japan will be held from 22 until 28 October, 2017, which this year marks the third consecutive year,” he said.

Griifith also urged participants to constantly improve lean practices by benchmarking lean practices in other organisations.
