20 pledge to donate organs

MIRI: Some 20 individuals have pledged to donate their organs in conjunction with the World Organ Donor Day through the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Miri Chapter yesterday.

Transport Minister cum Senadin assemblyman Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin said for the past decades, the response (pledging to donate their organs) from people in Miri had been encouraging, thanks to MRC Miri Chapter’s effort in creating awareness among the community

In Miri, MRC Miri Chapter recorded a total of 291 individuals pledging to give their organs for use after their deaths in 2021.

“The response for organ donation here in this district is pretty much impressive as to date (as of Aug 7, 2022) total pledgers are 94 persons,” said Lee when met on the occasion of the World Organ Donatiom Day at MRC Miri Chapter in Jalan Bulan Sabit here.

He also thanked MRC Miri Chapter for their tireless efforts in encouraging more people in this district to commit to organ donation.

“Doing so (donating organs), means you are literally saving the organ recipient’s life,” he said.

On blood donation drive which was held at MRC Miri Chapter, Lee said, a total of 218 events (blood donations) were hosted here since March 18, 2020.

“We have a total of 11,394 people registered to donate their blood and out that figure, 9,526 were successful blood donors,” Lee said.

Also present during the event was MRC Miri chapter blood donor recruitment committee chairman Cr Karambir Singh.
