SIBU: The Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) has announced plans to build 200 units of affordable homes in Tanjung Manis.

Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration, and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh said that the project, known as Rumah Spektra Permata (RSP), will cost approximately RM20 million.

Len said the Sarawak State Planning Unit has already approved the housing project under the Tanjung Manis Resettlement Scheme (SPS).

The allocation of RM20 million for the project has been approved by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg through the Rajang Delta Development Agency (RADDA).

According to Len, the housing programme will follow a similar concept to those implemented in SPS Darul Hana, Kuching, and SPS Kemuyang, Sibu.

He said this after attending a dinner commemorating the 50th anniversary of STIDC at a hotel here yesterday (June 11).

The main objective of the project is to address the housing needs of individuals residing in the Tanjung Manis Industrial Zone.

“We have observed that many people are employed here, and most of them are from outside the area. Some even have grandchildren and view Tanjung Manis as their hometown. This is why we have developed the resettlement scheme to cater to their needs,” said Len.

Priority will be given to those who require housing, including Pusaka staff, existing residents, and employees of other government departments.

“I am confident that this project will be implemented soon. The government will also develop supporting infrastructure such as roads, drainage systems, and utilities, in accordance with our housing policy,” added Len.
