200 undergo swab tests at Bandar Riyal market’s ACD

The traders and market customers being screened during the ACD on Sunday.

KUCHING: About 200 traders and patrons of the Bandar Riyal market in Kota Samarahan underwent swab tests during an active case detection (ACD) on Sunday (Aug 8).

The operations which started in the morning was conducted following several Covid-19 cases detected in the vicinity.

A total of about 40 health workers from the Samarahan Division Health Office were involved in carrying out this screening since 9am.

The Bandar Riyal market was closed starting Saturday following the outbreak according a notice by the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council.

Meanwhile, the Samarahan Division Health Office has called for members of the public who have visited the market between July 25 and Aug 7 to turn up for the ACD.

In a Facebook post by the Kota Samarahan parliamentary constituency service centre, it urged those who have visited the market in the last fourteen days to cooperate with the authorities and get themselves tested.

It also said Kota Samarahan MP Rubiah Wang was following the development of the ACD closely and had donated equipment to fulfil the needs of the health workers on duty for the operations.

Recently, two villages in the constituency were placed the enhanced movement control order (EMCO), namely Kampung Empila which started Saturday (Aug 7) until Aug 20 and Kampung Tanjung Tuang which started late last month.

For Kampung Empila, it was the second time that an EMCO was imposed at the village. It is now affecting about 2,200 residents from 443 families. The first one was imposed on June 3.
