2,000 partake in Maulidur Rasul parade

LUNDU: More than 2,000 people participated in a parade held in conjunction with Maulidur Rasul celebration for Kuching Division here yesterday. The three-kilometre parade led by Tanjung Datu assemblywoman Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu began and ended at Lundu mini stadium. Thirty-eight contingents representing government departments, agencies and statutory bodies, mosques and surau, Village Development and Security Committee ( J K K K ) , Public Institution of Higher Learning (IPTA), political parties and nongovernmental organisations (NGOs) as well as the public were among those participating in the parade. Meanwhile, Kuching Resident Ismail Mohamad Hanis said that the celebration was also attended by non-Muslims.

“This is a privilege in Sarawak as its people live in a multi-racial and religious life who respect each other,” he said. The Maulidur Rasul 1440H/2018M celebration for Ku c h i n g d i v i s i o n b e g a n o n November 16 with a gotong-royong programme and Tanjong Datu Berselawat at Masjid Pehin Sri Haji Adenan Haji Satem.

On the next day, a lecture was held at Kampung Sileng Melayu Mosque along with azan, iqamat, daie and coloring contests. In addition, a religious talk was held simultaneously in every mosque in Lundu, Sampadi and Sematan on Monday. Meanwhile, the Kuching division Maulidur Rasul celebration culminated with a banner parade and banner competition. In the competition, category A for government departments and statutory bodies was won by Kuching Division Religious Office.

Meanwhile, JKKK Kampung Sileng Melayu won the category B for mosque and JKKK Kampung. In category C (schools and IPTAs), the winner was Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Stunggang Melayu and category D (party and NGO’s) was won by Perkim Lundu District. In the coloring contest, Qaleesya, a student from SK Bumiputera Lundu emerged as the champion. For azan competition and iqamat competition, Mohd Alif Asraf Alwi from Kampung Meriyu Sekambal Lundu emerged as the champion while Daeng Rohadatul Aisyah Haron won the Daie competition.
