2,002 food packs given out to villagers

MUKAH: Residents of longhouses in Kampung Sitieng in Sebakong and Kenyana areas near here have been affected by floods following heavy rain in the past few days.

The longhouses comprise 311 units with 2,002 occupants.

Mukah division Welfare Department on Tuesday (Feb 9) distributed 2,002 packs of dry food to the affected residents (in Nanga Sikat, Nanga Dijih and Tanjung Pedada) in Sebakong.

Each food pack contains rice, sugar, salt, instant noodles, canned food, tea or coffee and biscuits.

Penghulu Mawar Awang, representing the chiefs of the longhouses, thanked the local people’s representative, Mukah division Resident Office, Mukah district office, Welfare department, other agencies as well as others who had helped in distributing the food aid.

Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi, Mukah division Welfare Department officer Haslinda Supu, Dominic Anju from Mukah district office and representatives from other agencies also attended the event.
