201 out of 608 approved IRSDA projects done

KUCHING: As of the second quarter of 2022, out of 608 projects approved under Integrated Regional Samarahan Development Agency (IRSDA), 201 projects have been completed while 86 are being implemented and 200 projects are under planning.

The IRSDA steering committee Chairman who is also the Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performance Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the development projects will be continued whereby 121 other projects will begin in the third quarter of the this year and the first quarter of 2023.

“Among the projects implemented by IRSDA include the state road projects and divisions’ road projects as well as the bridge project connecting the people in the Samarahan Division. These comprise the Jalan Lubok 5 Teranggas to Kampung Gedong Samarahan; upgrading roads of Asajaya Laut and  Asajaya Ulu; roads to Pekan Sebuyau; upgrading project of Kampung Semera No. 1 in Sadong Jaya, bridge projects and upgrading the bridge of Kampung Pantong Melayu in Simunjan.

“Apart from road and bridge projects, we also have planned projects for flood mitigation such as the flood mitigation work project at Asajaya Drainage Scheme, improvement work in SK Muara Tuang, Coastal Engineering Project such as Coastal Bund and Drainage System Project in Asajaya Drainage Scheme Block II, Coastal Bund and Drainage System Project in Sebangan Bajong Scheme Block A, D, E and F, and river engineering projects such as the River Project Improvement Works at Gedong (Phase II), Samarahan Division and River Project Improvement Works and Waterfront at Regatta Samarahan site, Kpg Tambirat which aims to help the people of Samarahan Division out of disasters hit by floods and river / coastal erosion,” he explained.

He said this in his speech during the launching ceremony of IRSDA at Raia Hotel, here yesterday.

Abdul Karim said IRSDA had also planned to implement various projects of agricultural development and tourism infrastructure development to increase productivity outcomes for the two sectors, namely economy as well as to enhance  the socio-economic development of the population in Samarahan.

“IRSDA is and will be implementing a number of agricultural projects which will be able to increase the overall agricultural production output of Samarahan such as the Crab Pilot Project which is the conservation of crabs in cages operated by University Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), development projects of New Coconut and Rehabilitation, as well as crop projects such as corn, chilli, watermelon and other crops.

“These agricultural products can also be processed systematically through the Post-Harvest and Processing Project to strengthen the agricultural produce processing plant and the Fishermen’s Ice Factory Project for the use of local fishermen,” he added.
