KUCHING: The 2022 Sarawak Budget is providing hope to people, particularly entrepreneurs affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, says Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.

The Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs and DBKU) pointed out that many sectors were affected, especially small and medium enterprises (SMEs), with some having to close operations.

“The Budget announced by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, which is RM10.646bil, focuses on efforts to revive the economy and to accelerate development programmes.

“At the same time, it also outlines eight strategic thrusts that prioritise the wellbeing of the people. Among the important things that will be implemented include the Sarawakku Sayang Special Assistance (BKSS) 8.0 with an allocation of RM285.47mil,” he said on Wednesday (Oct 13).

Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also Assistant Utilities Minister, lauded the state government’s efforts in introducing a new scheme for the people – the Housing Deposit Assistance Scheme for B40 and M40 groups.

“All civil servants in the state will receive special financial assistance amounting to one- and-a-half-month’s salary while federal civil servants in Sarawak will receive RM500 from the state government.

“Moreover, the state government will continue with numerous incentives such as for the newborns, postnatal mothers, senior citizens through the Kenyalang Gold Card, hemodialysis assistance and family empowerment programme.”

The Pantai Damai assemblyman commended the state government for continuing the water subsidy programme, electricity connection charge assistance, repairing and upgrading of longhouses as well as houses affected by fire, among others.
