21 held in entertainment centre bust

KUCHING: Police recently raided an entertainment centre at Tabuan and arrested 21 locals for engaging in drug activities.

Police Commissioner Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri told a press conference today (June 20) that the operation was carried out from 12.30am to 2am last Wednesday (June 15).

All of the suspects, comprising 17 men and four women, aged between 20 and 51, were arrested in the entertainment centre.

In addition, the team also seized 46 packets of Ecstasy juice, 150 pills of Erimin 5, 99 pills of Ecstasy and 25.23g of ketamine, all worth around RM37,419.

“Urine test results found that 15 men and four women were positive for methamphetamine while two men aged 30 and 40 tested negative.

“The suspect(s) obtained drugs from a local man and the supplies were later sold to the patrons of the entertainment centre, according to demand,” he said.

Other than that, cash amounting to RM3,425 and a car worth RM40,000, were confiscated under Section 25 of the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988.

Background checks found that six of the suspects had past records related to drugs.

Azman stated that two men were being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and another man under Section 39A(1) and Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act.

Meanwhile, the remaining 14 men and four women will be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

The two male suspects arrested under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, will be remanded until June 27 to facilitate investigations.

He added that the other male suspect has been charged under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and released on a RM25,000 court bail with one local surety.

The remaining 18 suspects have been released on police bail pending the completion of pathology reports, chemical reports and investigation papers.

Also present were Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata, Sarawak NCID chief ACP Mustafa Kamal Gani Abdullah and his deputy chief Supt Wong Leong Meng.

The operation photos of the raided entertainment centre operation at Tabuan, were displayed at the Sarawak Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) with 21 locals arrested and various drugs worth RM37,419 seized last Wednesday.
