MIRI: Two hundred-and-fourteen staff of 23 local councils in the state today received their Excellent Service Awards at a hotel here.

The 214 recipients received their awards from Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil.

On hand to witness the event was permanent secretary at the Ministry of Local Government and Housing Datuk Antonio Kahti Galis.

Penguang, who represented Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian at the event, reminded the staff of the local councils to be proactive in serving the community.

“Not many know that  the staff of local councils are also frontliners as they  play an important role during the movement control and recovery movement order during Covid-19 to ensure the standard operating procedures (SOPs) are being followed,” he pointed out.

Sim was unable to attend to programme as he had work commitment in Kuala Lumpur. Also present was Miri Mayor Adam Yii.
