BINTULU: Mara Skills Institute (IKM) here is one of two such institutes in Malaysia which offer technical courses related to the gas and petroleum industry, said director of MARA Sarawak Dr Azmi Amat Murjan.
The other institute is IKM Terengganu.
“The construction of the oil and gas production plant (OPP) project at IKM Bintulu is part of Mara’s efforts in training students who take up such courses in this division,” he explained.
“In fact, Bintulu is the most strategic location for a complete training centre to provide real industrial exposure to students,” he told a press conference after presenting certificates to IKM Bintulu and IKM Kuching graduates during the IKM Sarawak Convocation Ceremony at the institute here today.
Azmi continued: “The advantage of having these assets is that IKM Bintulu graduates particularly are not uncomfortable when working on oil rigs as they have advanced and up-to-date equipment.”
Among the technical courses related to the gas and petroleum industry offered by IKM Bintulu are the Certificate of Piping Fabrication EngineeringTechnology, Certificate of Structure Fabrication Engineering Technology, Certificate of Electrical Installation Engineering Technology, Diploma in Plant Operation Engineering Technology, Diploma in Instrumentation Maintenance and Plant Control Engineering Technology, and Diploma in Electrical Installation Engineering Technology.
Seventy-four graduates from IKM Bintulu and 144 graduates from IKM Kuching received their certificates at the event.
