KUCHING: A man was sentenced to six years in prison and three strokes of the rotan by the Sessions Court here for armed robbery.

Izzuddin, 22, pleaded guilty before Judge Mohd Taufik Mohd @ Mohd Yusoff on Tuesday (Feb 14).

Izzuddin was the second accused out of three others who committed gang robbery in a house at Taman Juta Ria at about 2am, April 3, 2021.

He was charged under Section 395 of the Penal Code, punishable under Section 397 of the same Code.

According to the facts of the case, during the incident, the 22-year-old victim was sleeping in his house when a group of men armed with machetes suddenly approached.

One of the men (accused) pointed a machete at the victim’s neck.

The others took the victim’s belongings such as a smartphone, a motorcycle and a wallet and fled.

After the incident, the victim filed a police report for further action and investigation. Mohd Izzuddin was arrested on the same day of the incident from a house at Taman Seri Makmur at about 1.17pm.

Three items belonging to the victim were found on the accused and the victim recognised the accused as a friend from a secondary school in Matang.

Meanwhile, another accused, Ameril, 29, was also sentenced to six years in prison and three strokes of the rotan for the same offence in the same court on Monday (Feb 13).

Two others, Jebat, 27, and Fadlizil, 24, pleaded not guilty and are awaiting trial.

The prosecution of the case was handled by deputy public prosecutor Danial Mohamad Ali while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
