Pesta Bubuk Miri 2022 to be held next month

MIRI: Miri City Council will be organising Pesta Bubuk Miri 2022 next month to showcase various activities in the forthcoming “Bubuk” season.

The Chairperson of Council’s Standing Committee for Tourism Development Cr Warziedea Ahmad said the event will be held from March 12 to March 13, at Tamu Batu 1, Kuala Baram in Miri.

She said Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak Dato Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah is expected to launch the festival on March 12 (Saturday) at 8am.

Meanwhile, Miri City Mayor Adam Yii will be officiating the closing ceremony at 9am on the next day at the same venue.

Warziedea, who is also the organising chairperson of Pesta Bubuk Miri 2022, said among the activities to be organised will include; Pesta Bubuk Sea Cruise, Wau competition, cooking competition, Zumba, among others. 

Pesta Bubuk Miri 2022 is a tourism event initiated by Miri City Council’s Standing Committee Tourism Development and such festival, for the first time, is being held in an organised manner and grand scale with the intention to promote it as an annual event in the Miri Calendar of Tourism Events in the future.

“Bubuk” is a type of sea produce of small shrimp which is usually found along sea fronts and becomes abundant in March in Miri.

After the “bubuk” harvesting, one can produce “Belacan”, shrimp paste, “Cincalok”, the fermented shrimp sauce and dried shrimp fritters which are the local delights among Mirians and Sarawakians as well as neighbouring Bruneians.
