BETONG: Twenty-three matters stipulated under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) are still under negotiation, while 11 matters have been resolved, said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

He said this was made possible through the bravery of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in the pursuit to restore Sarawak’s rights under MA63.

“He fought to restore Sarawak’s rights under MA63 which had been eroded. Eleven matters have been resolved and 23 are still under discussion,” Uggah said.

Uggah, who is also Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) deputy president, was speaking at the PBB Special Convention for Betong Zone held at Tan Sri Stephen Kalong Ningkan Sports Hall, today.

Meanwhile, he urged grassroots leaders to always be vigilant because there are still certain groups aiming to divide PBB for their own agenda.

He said that a Whatsapp group named ‘Randau Dayak’ has been circulating messages claiming that the state government never issued land titles for Dayak Native Customary Rights (NCR) lands.

He urged grassroots leaders to refute those lies, whether in the longhouse or on social media.

“Only when we are united can we focus on the task of bringing more development, progress, and prosperity to all people,” he added.

Uggah also urged PBB’s newest wing, Belia 1828, to emulate the Premier’s characteristics, who possesses wisdom, integrity, and innovation because PBB members must be ready to face various challenges that lie ahead.

“Therefore, PBB is fortunate to have Abang Johari as a role model who possesses values and character that can serve as an example to PBB members.

“Abang Johari is a leader who is visionary, full of wisdom, charisma, and political will to enable Sarawak to face these challenges and move forward.

“Therefore, due to his great vision and achievements, he has caught the attention of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to brief the members of the federal cabinet recently,” he said.
