KUCHING: A total of 238 descendants of the late Mohamad Yusuf were reunited in a gathering held at Brooke Hall, Batu Lintang Teacher’s College here to celebrate the recent Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
“The activity is carried out to bring the family together and strengthen family ties. Some of them rarely meet one another as they are living far apart,” said family spokesman Ahmad Malie.
One prominent member of the family is the state education director Dr Azhar Ahmad, who is the grandchild of Mohamad Yusuf.
“He (Azhar) shared a lot of stories on the leadership of his late grandfather with other family members.
“Mohamad Yusuf was a teacher and an avid preacher who constantly travelled to the rural areas and one time even to Saribas, Indonesia.
“He also founded a religious school, named Madrasah Al-Dinniah, which is now known as Sekolah Kebangsaan Jemukan, a public school at Kampung Jemukan, Sadong Jaya,” said Ahmad.
He hoped that the programme would continue to be organised in the future to ensure that the legacy of Mohamad live on.
