267 new cases, three new clusters

KUCHING: Sarawak has reported 267 new Covid-19 positive cases on Saturday (Mar 27), along with three Covid-19 clusters in Miri, Samarahan, and Bintulu.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said with the additional positive cases, this brings the state’s tally to 15, 443.

On the positive cases, the committee said Sibu District recorded the highest with 49 cases, Bintulu (44), Miri (40), Samarahan (31), Kuching (19), Serian (19), Bukit Mabong (13), Julau (10), Kanowit (eight), seven cases each in Kapit, Sri Aman, Beluru, three cases each in Meradong, Sarikei, Song, and one cases each in Marudi, Matu, Pakan, and Tanjung Manis.

SDMC said from the 267 new cases reported, a total of 25 people exhibited signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection during screening, while 231 were given quarantine.

They said 230 people were identified as close contacts to positive Covid-19 cases, and one case returned from overseas and the case has been categorised as an Import A case.

On the overall summary of the 267 cases, SDMC said 134 cases involved screenings of individuals who had contact with positive cases with 12 of them symptomatic, while 96 involved screenings of persons in existing active clusters with six of them detected symptomatic, 30 were other screenings at health facilities with one detected symptomatic, six were symptomatic cases screened at health facilities, and one returned from Italy (Import A).

In addition to that, SDMC said the Sarawak Health Department has declared three new Covid-19 clusters namely the Jalan Gridbid Cluster in Miri District, Kampung Baru Hilir Cluster in Samarahan District, and the Jalan Tanjung Kidurong Cluster in Bintulu District.

As of Saturday (Mar 27), there are a total of 36 active clusters. Of the total, 12 clusters reported an increase in cases.

SDMC said there are 267 new person-under-investigations (PUIs) reported, while none are awaiting laboratory results.
