KUCHING: A total of 275 arrests were made by the Integrated Enforcement Operation led by the State Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) in collaboration with the Customs Department up till March this year.

Welfare, Community Well-Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said these people were arrested for drug abuse and drug trafficking.

“It has been proven that the state enforcement department has contributed a lot in combating crime issues in the state,” she said at a handing-over ceremony of biscuit packs to the departments and agencies involved yesterday.

The Gawai-Raya Sumbangsih is a programme to appreciate the sacrifices of enforcement departments’ personnel especially those who will be working during the festive season, she added.

She also revealed that the contribution is also to appreciate the services of the enforcement departments to ensure that the state is safe especially at the border.

This year, 8,000 biscuit packs known as “love box” will be distributed to 10 departments and agencies in the state as compared to eight last year.

It is also an annual programme of the state government which started in 1990 through the Women’s Bureau which is now known as Sarawak Women and Family Department or Jabatan Wanita dan Keluarga Sarawak (JWKS).

Fatimah also stated that the programme will continue as long as Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is helming the state government.

Meanwhile, Eastern Field Commander Lt-Gen Datuk Wira Zamrose Mohd Zain said that with the donation he hoped the enforcement department could perform their duties smoothly as to maintain the safety of this state.

“I believe this programme could help reinforce harmony among those involved in safeguarding the state, especially those working during the festive seasons; furthermore this year Gawai Dayak and Hari Raya could be celebrated as one,” he said.

During the event, Fatimah also officiated at the launching of Women’s e-Preneur Application, one of the digital economic platforms that helps women entrepreneurs in promoting and marketing their products online.

The application is an initiative by JWKS with the cooperation of the Sarawak Multimedia Authority and developed by Socoe Sdn Bhd.

The app has three major digital platforms, namely JWKS Community, JWKS Market Place and JWKS Helpline.

In conjunction with the coming Gawai Dayak and Hari Raya, JWKS Market Place will hold a promotion for every purchase made through the application.

A total of 20 percent discount will be given automatically when enrolling in the app.

Also present at the event were Women, Family and Childhood Development Assistant Minister Rosey Yunus and Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) Chairman Lo Khere Chiang, who is also Batu Kitang assemblyman.
