284 summonses issued in four-hour ops

KUCHING: A five-hour police operation on Friday saw 284 traffic summonses issued for various offences.

State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said 50 policemen from the state headquarters and district headquarters were deployed for the operation conducted at Jalan Tun Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Rahman Yakub (Satok Bridge heading to Temenggung Abang Kipali roundabout).

Alexson said the special operations, from 8.30pm to midnight and held in conjunction with the Ops Selamat Chinese New Year celebration, focused on motorcyclists.

“The operations was aimed at preventing road accidents involving motorcyclists,” he said in a statement.

The summonses were issued against no driving licence (38), expired road tax (45), registration numbers modification (35), and not wearing helmet (15).

Summonses were also issued against overloading passengers (8), modification of exhaust (18) and no side mirror (15).

He said 11 motorcycles were seized during the operation.
