BINTULU: Twenty-nine individuals were detained under Prevention of Corruption Act (Poca), which saw them being banished for the whole of last year, said district police chief Supt Zulkipli Suhaili.

He, however, declined to disclose the places of banishment except to say they were within the state.

The offenders may be banished to other states in the Peninsular Malaysia if they were found to have repeated their crimes, he added.

Zulkupli said detention and surveillance of individuals under Poca was based on the type of offences committed.

The offences included drug abuse, stealing of properties and house-breaking.

Zulkipli said individuals would be detained under Poca based on the decision of the Crime Prevention Board.
