KUCHING: A total of 2,914 teachers had been trained in the English Fun Learning(EFL) Programme which lasted for 15 weeks starting from June and ended in October this year. Dato Sri Hajah Fatimah Abdullah, Minister for Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development said the ELF Programme was held at 68 centres in 31 districts was aimed to empower and equip educators in kindergartens and nurseries with knowledge and pedagogy skills of learning English that is fun.
“EFL Programme started in June and ended in October 2017 which took 15 weeks, had trained 2,914 eductors. Assessment was also carried out and the result showed that the participants found that the course was very helpful to them in handling learning activities in learning the English Language,” she said at English Fun Learning Programme Appreciation Dinner at Pullman Hotel in Kuching yesterday evening.
Fatimah also said the EFL Programme aimed to empower educators and caregivers with the knowledge and skills (Edutainment Concept) so that they could give children in Learning English the Fun Way; empowering educators and child caregivers with knowledge and skills (Edutainments) so that they could guide children in nurseries, kindergartens, preschools the process of learning English in the fun way.
Preschool is time of rapid growth and development and when children learn English, she pointed out, it was to ensure that they got enough time to practise the language.
Fun activities, she also said, would help teachers motivate children to practise more and enjoy the learning process; and children must be given activities that match their level of ability in order that teachers could easily monitor each child’s growth and learning.
Fatimah believed that educators who attended that would be more confident and enjoy teaching children in English. And children who were taught would also enjoy learning and become more confident in communicating in English.
The dinner was also attended Dr. Siti Zaliha Bt Reduan, Adminiatrative Officer of Children Development Unit and Chief Trainer, English Fun Learning Programme, EFL trainers and others.
