3 drug traffickers further detained

KUCHING: Three men suspected of drug trafficking were further detained at the Puncak Borneo prison here pending a chemical report on September 9.

In Kuching Court on Tuesday (Aug 11), Magistrate Mohd Syukri Mokhtar meted out the order to the three men, aged between 25 and 47 years old, to be further detained in prison after they were charged under Section 39B (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

According to the Section, they can be sentenced to death or life imprisonment, or face whipping of not less than 15 strokes.

No confession was recorded against them.

The three accused were suspected of distributing 50.10g of methamphetamine around 5pm in a house at Taman Matang Jaya on July 27.

In a separate case, a man who pleaded guilty to threatening to harm his stepfather was fined RM4,000 or four months jail time on Tuesday (Aug 11).

The 29-year-old was fined after pleading guilty to threatening to harm his 57-year-old stepfather after showing him a knife.

The victim, feared for his safety, lodged a police report regarding the incident.

The accused committed the offense at 6am in a house at Lorong Petra, Petra Jaya on July 9.

According to the case’s facts, the incident took place after the accused warned his family that he would stabbed them if they approached him.
