SAMARINDA: In a freak incident here in East Kalimantan, a 3-year-old boy has been found positive for drug consumption after ingesting mineral water given by a neighbour.

Samarinda Police Commissioner Ary Fadli confirmed through a statement that a urine screening test revealed traces of methamphetamine (syabu) in the child’s system.

According to a report from Bernama, the incident took place on June 6 when the child accompanied his mother on a visit to their neighbour’s house. During the visit, the neighbour provided the child with half a bottle of mineral water.

Following their return home, the child displayed unusual levels of hyperactivity, refusing to eat and experiencing difficulty sleeping for several nights.

Upon investigation, it was discovered that the bottle of mineral water had been used to consume syabu.

A 51-year-old woman was subsequently arrested on June 11 on charges of drug misuse and violating child protection laws. If convicted, she could face a prison sentence of up to 10 years.
