KUCHING: From now till the middle of next year, Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang is targeting another 30 houses within his constituency to be repaired under Minor Rural Project — Program Penambahbaikan Rumah Rakyat Miskin Sarawak (MRP-PPRMS).

“We have completed the repair of 70 houses from 2017 until now. This is a very good programme and we have been able to help a lot of people,” he said at the handover of a newly repaired house under MRP-PPRMS at 10th Mile here yesterday.

He said that the house, belonging to Chin Joon Chin, was the third house which had been repaired this year through the voluntary efforts of the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) Kota Padawan and People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) Landeh.

He said he had helped to purchase the materials required using the MRP-PPRMS funds of RM1 million allocated to each constituency annually. He added that the cost of repairs for each house could not exceed RM15,000.

“I am very touched, proud, and thankful to JKKK Kota Padawan and Rela Landeh as it was all voluntary. I am glad that they are very active and have the heart to serve.

“I used the RM15,000 to purchase as much materials as I could and they came up with the labour,” said Lo, who is also Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman.

For Chin’s house, the roofing had been repaired as it was old and leaking.

When interviewed, he said that the house was from his parents and it had been around for 60 years. He said he had lived there for 40 years and eight people lived there – himself, his wife, his sister, and five children.

According to Lo, last week he had handed over another completed MRP-PPRMS house to its owner Tsai Jin Choi at 12th Mile, which had been repaired by JKKK Kota Padawan and Rela Landeh as well.

For Tsai’s house, the roofing had been repaired and the toilet, walls, and windows had been replaced. The total cost was RM17,000, with RM15,000 from the MRP-PPRMS allocation and the remainder being covered by other sponsors.

“I would like to thank our Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and the MRP to be continued,” said Lo.
