KOTA SAMARAHAN:  Three thousand policemen are being mobilised to monitor roadblocks aimed at controlling inter-district movements in the state during the conditional movement control order (CMCO).

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Aidi Ismail said yesterday there would be 51 roadblock operations in addition to the Compliance Operation Task Force from May 10 until June 9 this year to monitor control inter-district movements in the state.

He added the 3000 policemen had been assigned to carry out their duties according to their respective schedules throughout the CMCO.

“Inter-district movements are allowed only in the case of those who are working or commuters in cases of emergency,” he said.

Police, Aidi added, would also monitor compliance of sectors operating throughout the conditional movement control order (CMCO) in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) set by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

“The monitoring team will also be inspecting the SOP compliance of sectors allowed to operate including manufacturing, retail and transport,” he told a press conference at Kota Samarahan District Police Headquarters yesterday.

Aidi added that the operations also involved personnel from the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) and Ministry of Health.

Although the economic sectors were allowed to operate from 7am to 10pm, he advised the public to be responsible and to avoid going out at night to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
