30,000 expected at KIBW 2017

KUCHING: Some 4000 bikers and 30,000 visitors are expected to attend and enjoy the 2nd edition of Kuching International Bike Week ( KIBW) 2017 for 3 days, from 13 October to 15 October 2017. Minister of Tour ism, Ar ts, Culture, Youth and Sports, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said that bikers from across the state, West Malaysia, Sabah and also other countries such as Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Australia, New Zealand and United Kingdom are expected to attend the event.

“The festival, which is the 2nd edition after KIBW 2015, is the one and only bikers festival from the Nusantara and foreign countries, which will be held at CityOne Megamall grounds and rooftop,” he said in a press conference held at his office in Baitulmakmur building, Petra Jaya, on Tuesday.

He also said that the festival will be held biennially if KIBW 2017 gets good response from the bikers. “Among the several performances to be held are KIBW Cowboy Ride on October 13, KIBW City Ride on October 14 and 3 days of stunt bike shows by talented world famous stunt extraordinaire, Aaron Twite. “There wi l l be kiosks and booths selling things related to biking and also motorcycle safety clinic to be held,” said Karim. Karim said the highlight of the programme will be the Gala Night at Pullman Hotel on October 14.

Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Datuk Abang Hj.Openg are expected to be among the guests of honour.

“The Gala Dinner will hold lucky draws where everyone stands a chance to win; and the lucky winners will ride away on a brand new Harley Davidson and four other bikes,” he pointed out. Karim invites the public to come and enjoy the show, as entrance is free.

“We also hope that Kuching people will be more patient especially during the city ride event as there will be a large number of bikers on the road and may cause a little bit of traffic congestion.

“This festival can promote our state, especially Kuching, as a good tourism destination for tourist,” he added. KIBW 2017, organi sed by Iron Tiger Bike Club Kuching, in collaboration with Borneo Tru Events, continues its quest to bring Kuching’s unique heri tage to the wor ld wi th the theme “Brotherhood Beyond Boundaries”, to foster a deeper bond within the biker communities of Borneo Island, the ASEAN region and beyond.
