SIBU: Three hundred and thirteen children aged 12 to 17 were vaccinated at the Pandu Lalu Vaccination Centre (PPV) located at the parade ground of the 3rd Battalion of the Royal Ranger Regiment (3RRD), Oya Camp on Thursday (Sept 23).

They were children of soldiers and civil servants under Brigade 9.

The headquarters of the Ninth Malaysian Infantry Brigade (Brigade 9), in a statement yesterday (Sept 26), said that eight of its members were involved in the vaccination process.

The statement added that the drive-thru medical team consisted of an officer and five members of other ranks (LLP) from 803 Armed Forces Hospital (RSAT).

“The Commander of the 9th Brigade, Brigadier General Shamshor Jaafar, was also present at the PPV to monitor the progress of the programme.

“Overall, the programme was carried out smoothly and in an orderly manner as planned,” the statement said.

During the administration of the vaccine, it said parents or guardians were required to be present as witnesses of their children’s consent to receive the Covid-19 vaccine.

The immunisation programme was carried out in preparation for the opening of the school on October 3.

“The programme is to ensure that the risk of infection in schools can be reduced and to protect the high-risk groups who are not eligible to receive the vaccine,” the statement added.
