330 boxes of illicit liquor seized

MIRI: A total of 330 boxes of Camel liquor brand with unpaid taxes worth RM149,467.40 were seized by the Sarawak Marine Police Region 5 on Monday morning, during an operation codenamed ‘Ops Kontraban’.

According to Miri district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, a team of Marine Police Intelligence Unit (URM) had stopped two suspicious vehicles by the roadside of Jalan Cahaya Lopeng around 9.30 am.

“All seized items were found inside a pickup truck and a van, and upon inspection, both vehicles’ drivers had failed to produce valid document on the items,” he disclosed in a statement.

The case is being investigated under Section 135 (1) (d) of the Customs Act 1967.
