SIMANGGANG: A total of 331 individuals have received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine since the start of the second phase of the immunisation programme at Dewan Suarah Sri Aman.

The three-day immunisation programme in Sri Aman started on Friday. A total of 762 senior citizens aged 60 and above and frontline personnel are scheduled to be inoculated.

For the record, in the second phase of the programme, there are 37,267 high-risk individuals who will receive the vaccine. Thus far, 1,795 individuals have completed their doses.

Sri Aman vaccine programme chief Dr Janariah Jangani said those who have received the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine will follow up to receive their second dose, expected after Hari Raya Aidilfitri. Sri Aman is targeting to vaccinate 82,379 of its population.

Earlier today Community Wellbeing Assistant Minister Datuk Francis Harden Hollis visited the vaccination centre to monitor the inoculation progress.

Harden, who is also Simanggang assemblymen, thanked the people for coming in to receive the vaccine as it is in line the state government’s aspiration to fight Covid-19.

“To those who have not yet registered for vaccination, I advise you all to register immediately. You can use the MySejahtera application to register online or go to the nearest district office.

“I urge people to be patient in waiting for your turns because the government is trying to speed up the process to get more vaccines,” Harden said.

The state government under the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) has the green light from the federal government to purchase its own Covid-19 vaccines for Sarawakians, he pointed out.

“It is hoped that the state government’s efforts can speed up the vaccination process for all eligible Sarawakians,” he added.

Harden also handed over donations of 20 boxes of mineral water, 20 boxes of soft drinks and 72 packs of crackers for officials running the immunisation programme.

Cream crackers and drinks donated by Harden to health personnel at the vaccination centre.
