SIBU: The 10th edition of the Sibu International BASE Jump attracted a total of 34 jumpers from 14 countries on Thursday.

Out of the 34 jumpers featured in this year’s event, seven are women.

The BASE jumpers are from the US, UK, Belarus, Belgium, Canada, Estonia, Ireland, New Zealand, Russia, Finland, France, Germany, Australia and Malaysia.

Present to officiate the event at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang was Dudong Assemblyman and Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) Chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King.

Organised by the Sibu Resident Office with the cooperation of the Malaysian BASE Association, the extreme sports event runs from September 20 to 23, in which the BASE jumpers would leap from the 126m Wisma Sanyan, Sarawak’s tallest building, to the open space at Sibu Town Square Phase 1.

Members of the public are welcome to witness the jumpers all around the world to make their leap from the top of Wisma Sanyan.

Night jumps are scheduled for yesterday and today, subject to weather condition.

BASE is an acronym for four categories of fixed objects from which a person can jump, namely building, antennae, span (bridge) and earth (cliff).
