Firefighters wade through floodwaters to rescue flood victims at Kampung Lambir, Miri.

MIRI: Thirty-five flood victims were rescued and evacuated to temporary shelters by the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) last Sunday.

The villages affected in the flood that day were Kampung Lambir and Kampung Bidayuh Lusut here.

Four of the victims were rescued from a house at Kampung Lambir, Miri, which was flooded up to the chest. Firefighters rescued and transferred them to a relative’s home.

In Kampung Bidayuh Lusut, Miri, five houses were submerged by four feet of water. All 31 residents in the houses were transferred to their relatives’ homes.

However, no one was transferred from Kampung Pujut which was also affected by the flood that day. 

At 10am yesterday, several areas in the state such as Samarahan, Mukah, Sri Aman, Sarikei, Sibu, Bintulu and Limbang were also affected by floods.

A house in Kampung Mentu Tapu, Serian, was reportedly submerged by one foot of water.
