State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a statement today, said with the three deaths, the total Covid-19 death toll in the state was now 140.

It said the man was treated at Sibu Hospital for respiratory distress before he developed a fever and cough a few days ago.

“The rT-PCR test came back positive on April 14. The man’s health condition deteriorated and he was confirmed dead on April 18. The case had comorbidities such as gout and obesity,” said SDMC.

The committee said the second death case was a 77-year-old local man who was referred to Bintulu Hospital from a private hospital after testing positive for Covid-19 on April 7.

“The case also had symptoms of fever. rT-PCR testing was done and he was positive for Covid-19 on April 8. The man’s condition deteriorated and he was confirmed dead on April 17. The case had comorbidity of high blood pressure and diabetes,” added the committee.

SDMC said the third case involved a 72-year-old local woman who received treatment at Miri Hospital for a bacterial infection in an ulcer wound in the sacral area.

“Pre-surgical test screening through RTK antigen was positive on April 12 while the rT-PCR test was also positive on April 13. The woman’s health condition deteriorated and she was confirmed dead on April 19,” it said.
