350,000 litres of diesel seized, ship held

SIBU: The Sarawak Marine Police Region 5 (PPM) today seized a total of 350,000 litres of diesel fuel from a cargo ship along the Pulau Kerto stretch of the Batang Rajang, here.

Its commander ACP Zulfikar Mohd Ghazali said the seizure came after the ship’s captain failed to present the Petroleum Development Act 1974 (PDA) licence. He was also found having an expired bunkering licence.

“On Thursday at approximately 6am, while conducting Ops Pensura, our officer and members of PPM Botronda detained and inspected a diesel cargo ship at the Pulau Kerto stretch of the Batang Rajang.

“The ship and all equipment, diesel fuel as well as a local male ship crew and a foreign crew aged 48 and 24  were also detained,” he said in a statement today.

He said the value of the seizure including the cargo ship and diesel fuel came to a total of RM2,252,500.

“All confiscated items and arrests were handed over to the investigating officer of the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry branch of Sibu Division for investigation and further action.”
