KUCHING: Today marks the start of the Sijil Peperiksaan Malaysia (SPM) examination for 35,885 candidates across Sarawak, spread across 257 examination centres.

State Education director Datuk Azhar Ahmad said that among these candidates, 149 are disabled individuals who are also sitting for the examination.

“All in all, we have a total of 395,870 registered candidates at 3,340 examination centres nationwide who will be sitting for the SPM 2023 examination from Jan 30 to Mac 7.

“A total of 129,635 examination officers in Malaysia have been appointed while 2,531 of them are appointed in the state.

“Their appointments are to ensure the smooth management and conduct of examinations,” he told reporters after attending the first day of SPM examination at Sekolah Seni Malaysia Sarawak, Salak Land District, Jalan Sultan Tengah here, today.

Lina expressed her nervousness about her child’s significant day. Glyana, who suffers from dyslexia, has bravely enrolled in the school to compete alongside her peers.

“As a parent, I naturally feel anxious for her. Hence, I am here today to provide her with motivation and moral support,” Lina said.

Despite Glyana’s dyslexia diagnosis at the age of 5, Lina stressed that it has never hindered her daughter’s determination.

“As a parent, of course I feel nervous for her. That is why I came over today to give her motivation and moral support.

“Nevertheless, I believe that the intensive and extra classes that were given by the teachers here since early 2023 are enough to equip her along with other students here to face this examination,” she said.
