Authorities cutting electricity supply to one of the premises.

SIBU: A total of 37 premises here suspected of conducting illegal online gambling activities were raided and had their electricity supply cut, last Thursday.

District police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the integrated operation was carried out by the District Criminal Investigation Division (BSJD), Sibu District Police Headquarters (IPD) together with Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB).

“We conducted a raid around 1pm. All the owners of the premises and the caretakers of the premises were given notice of the power cut, and we explained the presence of the police and SEB,” he said in a statement today.

ACP Stanley said 10 members from BSJD IPD Sibu as well as seven SEB staff were involved in the operation that ended at 4pm.

“The process of cutting the electricity supply went well and smoothly.”

 He added that the action was taken in accordance with Section 21A of the Open Gambling House Act 1953.
