385 new cases in Sarawak

KUCHING: Sarawak today recorded 385 new positive Covid-19 cases, bringing the state’s tally to 18,164.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said of the total cases, 129 were reported in Sri Aman, Sibu (81), Bintulu (52), Miri (45), Kuching (22), Saratok (13), Lubok Antu (10), Marudi (six), five each in Samarahan, Beluru and Asajaya, Pakan (three), two each in Sebauh, Mukah and Limbang, and one each in Sarikei, Bukit Mabong and Kanowit.

Of the total cases reported, 128, involving the Tembok Cluster, were reported from Sri Aman Central Prison.

“One hundred and twenty-two detainees, four prison staff and two family members of the prison staff tested positive,” Uggah told the press conference on the daily Covid-19 update at the Old State Legislative Assembly (DUN) building here.

He said 184 of the new cases were detected from screenings of individuals who had contact with positive cases, 168 involved screenings of individuals in existing active clusters, 18 involved screenings at health facilities while 10 are symptomatic cases screened at health facilities.

Four others were detected after returning from China and Papua New Guinea while others were detected after returning from other states in the country.

Uggah said 228 cases had recovered and were discharged from hospitals.

“Fifty-four cases were from Bintulu Hospital, Miri Hospital (50), Sibu Hospital (38), Sarawak General Hospital (31), Covid-19 Low Risk Quarantine and Treatment Centre (PKRC) Serian (29), Serian Hospital (15), PKRC Kapit (five) and three each from PKRC Sri Aman and Mukah,” he said.

He said the total recovered and discharged cases had increased to 14,929 or 82.19 percent of the total Covid-19 cases in the state.

“The number of active cases still receiving treatment and segregated in the PKRC and hospital wards according to the referral hospital is 3,061.

“Meanwhile, 385 new persons-under-investigation (PUI) were reported,” said Uggah.
