391 new cases, five more fatalities recorded

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 391 new Covid-19 cases and five deaths today, taking the cumulative total to 33,477 cases and a death toll of 195.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said that 64.45 percent of the new cases were detected in Sibu, Bintulu, Miri, Kapit and Kuching districts.

“Sibu recorded 88 cases, followed by Bintulu 55 cases, Miri (50), Kapit (33), Kuching (26), Selangau (23), Sri Aman (19), 11 each in Samarahan and Kanowit, 10 each in Sarikei and Mukah, Pakan (8), Julau (7), six each in Subis and Serian, five each in Meradong and Tebedu, Bau (four), three each in Sebauh, Tatau and Song, Saratok (two), and one each in Betong, Daro and Belaga.

“Of the 391 new cases reported, 58 showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection during the screening while 308 were those who have been given quarantine orders,” SDMC said.

On the overall breakdown of the new cases, the committee said 256 were individuals who had contact with positive Covid-19 cases, 51 were linked to existing active clusters, 48 were other screenings at health facilities, 35 were from symptomatic individual screenings at health facilities and one case was an individual who had returned from other states in Malaysia (Import B).

Today 398 new cases had recovered and discharged from hospitals in the state.

“Of the 398 new recovery cases, 155 were in Sibu Hospital and its Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC), Sarawak General Hospital and its PKRC (59), Miri Hospital and its PKRC (57), Sarikei Hospital and its PKRC (30), Serian PKRC (27), Kapit Hospital and its PKRC (23), Bintulu Hospital and its PKRC (22), Mukah PKRC (15) and five each from Betong PKRC and Sri Aman Hospital.

“These take the total number of recovered and discharged cases as of Thursday to 26,916 or 80.40 percent of the total number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak,” said SDMC.

It also pointed out that 6,288 active cases were still being isolated and treated at PKRCs and hospital wards state-wide.

“396 new person-under-investigation (PUIs) were reported and no PUIs were waiting for laboratory test results,” it said.
