KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 395 new Covid-19 positive cases and two deaths today.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its statement today, said the total number of cases now stood at 37,121 while the death toll was 214.

It said 254 or 64.30 percent of the new cases were detected in Miri, Sri Aman, Kuching and Bintulu districts.

The districts that recorded cases today were Miri with 88 cases, Sri Aman (64), Kuching (57), Bintulu (45), Sibu (27), Tebedu (25), Mukah (17), Samarahan (16), Bau (nine), Belaga (six), Serian (five), Pusa (five), Meradong (four), Sebauh (four), Sarikei (four), Kanowit (three), Lawas (three), Subis (two), Lundu (two), Bukit Mabong (two), Tatau (two), Saratok (two) and one each in Selangau, Kapit and Pakan.

“A total of 21 people showed signs and experienced symptoms of Covid-19 infection during screenings,” SDMC said.

It revealed one of the fatalities was a 71-year-old local woman who was treated at Sibu Hospital for chest and abdominal pains.

“She had poor appetite for a week before seeking treatment at Sibu Hospital. She was confirmed positive for Covid-19 on May 3 and died on May 12. The woman also suffered from heart disease,” it added.

The committee said the second death involved a 79-year-old local man who was treated at Sibu Hospital for respiratory distress.

He had symptoms of fever, cough and loss of appetite for a few days.

“A swab test on April 18 found he was positive for Covid-19. The man’s health deteriorated and died on May 12. He had chronic kidney disease, diabetes and stroke,” said SDMC.
