KUCHING: Efficient management has earned Surau Darul Ihsan of Kampung Sri Kandong a four-star recognition from the Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS).

Rural Electricity Assistant Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said it is something to be proud of because not many suraus in Sarawak have received such recognition.

“Surau Darul Ihsan is among the suraus in our area (Pantai Damai Constituency) which have been recognised by the MIS.

“This success is definitely driven by efficient surau management,” he said when speaking at Cooking and Distribution of Nasi Tomato programme in Kampung Sri Kandong, last Saturday.

Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also Pantai Damai assemblyman, advised the surau committee to continue ensuring that the facilities for the ‘jemaah’ (group of religious people) are always being taken care of.

According to him, the function of the surau should also be diversified to increase the involvement of every member of the community.

“Apart from prayers, the surau can also be used as a place to hold tuition classes and fardu ain (religious teachings) as well as a platform for economic activities for the women,” he said.
