KUCHING: 40 people participated in a forum entitled “NCR: The Hidden Truth” and solidarity fundraising dinner organised by Dayak Nation Institute (DANI) at Telang Usan Hotel here last Saturday.
The forum comprised three topics; the first topic was given by a former Land and Survey officer who shared with the participants about the Land Code especially under Section 6 and 18. He also shared solutions over the land issues.
The second topic was presented by Tuai Rumah Solomon from Pantu who talked about community empowerment. He and other landowners from Pantu had experienced in dealing with land cases in court.
The last topic was given by Cobbold John, a landowner, who talked about NCR land bank strategy utilisation: the monetisation of NCR land bank and how to make Dayak millionaires by using their NCR.
The focus of the seminar was more on a practical, two-way-street communication which put more emphasis in seeking solutions or resolutions to problems.
Most of the participants were landowners and some were also involved in land disputes with the companies and the state government.
The last Saturday’s forum will also be expanded to other towns. From the forum, the speaker concluded that the community should survey their land effectively and not to wait for the government to do it.
The next forum will be held on 15 April at Telang Usan Hotel, Miri, from 8.00am-4.00pm.
