40 students gain skills on bird watching

KUCHING: Forty students from Sekolah Seni Malaysia Sarawak gained new skills on basic bird watching and bird identification method during the Migratory Bird workshop on Friday (Sept 2).

The Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) said the workshop was part of its Conservation, Education, and Public Awareness (CEPA) programme.

“During the programme, our research officers introduced common migratory birds in Sarawak. They also highlighted on the importance of Bako-Buntal Bay in the Asian-Australasian Flyway Network.

“It was delightful to see the students were able to express their conservation mindedness through their interpretation of migratory bird’s drawing,” it said in a social media post.

At the same time, SFC and the Malaysian Nature Society Kuching branch are organising a World Migratory Bird Day photography exhibition.

Birdwatchers and photographers are welcomed to share beautiful photos of migratory waterbirds during the annual southward migration through the East Asian-Australasian Fly.

“Share your love for migratory birds through your photo collections in conjunction with the World Migratory Bird Day 2022.

“Selected photographs will be displayed at the Sarawak State Library during the week of World Migratory Bird Day 2022 from Oct 15 to 22,” it said.

The World Migratory Bird Day 2022 is an annual awareness-raising campaign observed on Oct 8 and highlights the need for the conservation of migratory birds and their habitats.
