LONG SUKANG (Lawas): PETRONAS, in collaboration with the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia and local communities, yesterday launched the Persatuan BOMBA Sukarela Long Sukang to promote safety awareness amongst the communities surrounding the Sabah-Sarawak Gas Pipeline (SSGP) project in Long Sukang, Lawas, as part of its Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiative.

Under this programme, some 40 villagers received basic training including first-aid as well as fire fighting equipment from the Fire and Rescue Department of Lawas to enable them to act as first responders in the event of a fire or medical emergencies.

This is part of PETRONAS’ initiative to ensure the safety of the fenceline communities along the SSGP project in the event of any incident as the nearest fire station is two hours away in Lawas town.

In addition, the Bomba Sukarela team has completed two training modules to-date and they will be continuously trained and supervised by the fire department.
