400 expected at Mental Health Conference

KUCHING: Sentosa Hospital Kuching will host the 5th Sarawak Mental Health Conference 2018 to be held at Imperial Hotel Kuching from 9 to 11 April.

This was announced by Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah during a courtesy call by Hospital Sentosa’s health officers to her office at Baitulmakmur, Petra Jaya here, yesterday.

The objective of the conference with the theme, “Broadening the Horizons of Mental Health in the Community” is to create public awareness about issues related to mental health.

“The conference is targeting about 300 to 400 participants comprising doctors, medical assistants, paramedics, nurses, health care professionals and members of public.

“This conference also meant to equip healthcare professionals to patients with mental illness, reduce the stigma among society, awareness about individual wellbeing of mental and emotional as well as raising funds,” said Fatimah.

Among the various topics to be discussed during the workshop are Parenting Today’s Teens, Cognitive Dysfunction in Depression: Functional Consequences in People with Depression, Management of Aggression in Peripheral Hospitals, Fundamentals of Psychiatric Interview & Mental State Assessment, and Mindful Gym Rest-Shop: Mindfulness for Stress Reduction and Wellness.

The registration fee for early bird is RM400 for Workshop and Conference, RM300 for conference only, and RM180 for workshop only (deadline before 15 March), and registration fee after 15 March is RM450 for both workshop and conference, RM350 for conference only and RM250 for workshop only.
