SERIAN: About 400 local residents took part in the third edition of the Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (SABERKAS) Career and Education Carnival held here.

The one-day carnival saw the active involvement of 20 employment and education agencies, offering an engaging platform to empower and uplift the local community.

Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah urged all attendees to seize this golden opportunity and soak up as much valuable information as they can about the array of job offers awaiting them.

“My advice to employers is to provide opportunities to job seekers if they are found to be suitable and meet the organisation’s requirements.

“As for job seekers, you have given your best during today’s interview session, and it’s hoped that you’ll maintain a positive mindset and act promptly to seize any job opportunities that come your way.

“For the youth who wish to further their education, especially in technical fields, make the most of this opportunity to gather information about the programmes or courses offered by educational agencies, aligning them with your qualifications and interests,” he said.

He said this in a text of a speech read by Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus when officiating at the Career and Education Carnival at Serian Conference Centre here on Saturday (Aug 26).

Meanwhile, Sarawak Social Security Organisation (Socso) senior assistant director Farinah Japar disclosed that a total of 97 candidates underwent interviews with participating employers during the programme.

“Out of this number, 15 individuals have successfully been offered jobs, while another 57 will undergo a second interview,” she said, representing the Director of Sarawak Socso Tan Phang Chia.

Additionally, Saberkas executive secretary Iszuan Haroni mentioned that SABERKAS was celebrating its 50th jubilee this year.

“Many activities have been planned to be organised at the state, branch, and unit levels. The Saberkas Career and Education Carnival programme, in collaboration with Socso, is p planned as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations,” he said.

The carnival, which was held from 9 am to 5 pm, marks the third series following the first series that SABERKAS held in Bintulu in February, while the second series was conducted in Sri Aman last May.

SABERKAS is also planning to organise another series of this carnival, expected to take place in the fourth quarter of this year, covering the central zone.

Also present was Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang Bada.
