KUCHING: Some 400 traffic police will be deployed for ‘Operation Lancar’ in preparation for the upcoming Gawai celebration.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata said today the operation, scheduled to run from May 30 to June 4,  is to ensure safe and smooth traffic flow across the state.

“It will target federal, state, and council roads notorious for road accidents and traffic congestion.

“The operation is geared towards alleviating traffic congestion, particularly during peak hours, and taking action against traffic violators,” he said.

Mancha urged road users to adhere strictly to traffic regulations and cooperate with the traffic. Emphasising a zero-tolerance policy towards traffic offences, he cautioned that stringent measures will be enforced against violators.

“Always keep your loved ones in mind, prioritising safety above all,” he said, adding that

he hoped the operation would contribute to a reduction in fatal accidents.
