KUCHING: Despite logistics challenges, more than 4,000 food packets under the Sarawakku Sayang Special Assistance (BKSS) 6.0 package were delivered to 128 longhouses in the Mulu Constituency within a period of six days.

Mulu assemblyman Datuk Gerawat Gala stated this in a Facebook post on Monday (June 14).

He thanked various agencies and those involved for their dedication, commitment and success in preparing, transporting and delivering the food aid.

“For those involved, this meant lifting and carrying items, sacrificing many long and tiring hours of risky transport travel by rough roads and boats to reach the various villages,” he said.

Gerawat disclosed that the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) team in Poyut-Lubok Nibong, coordinated by Pemanca Randie Bundan and team together with the Marudi District Office, Welfare Department, Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) and Malaysia Civil Defence (APM), transported and delivered 1,971 food packets to the longhouses in the Poyut-Lubok Nibong area and Tutoh area.

“The GPS Mulu Youth team, coordinated by the youth chief and team, also transported and delivered 2,610 food packets to the longhouses in Kedaya, Telang Usan and to the longhouses in the Bario sub-district area. Village Chief Caleena Sakai and his team also helped,” he said.

Gerawat said Councillor Simpson Jok and the ground team prepared and packed all the food packets while the Bomba helicopter team helped to send 202 food packets to eight Penan longhouses which could not be accessed by road or boat.

Gerawat added that food packets would also be delivered to affected longhouses near the Long Seridan areas which could not be accessed due to the damage of the Tutoh Bridge by a flood recently and the repair of another bridge from the Limbang side.

“Thank you to the District Offices of Miri, Telang Usan, Marudi, Bomba, Welfare Department, APM, People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela), Mulu councillors, community leaders and others, who in one way or another, contributed to the success of the BKSS 6.0 programme for the Mulu Constituency.

“It is heartfelt to know many are grateful to the Sarawak government for the provision of the food packages which they received during this movement control order (MCO) period,” he said.
