KUCHING: A total of 408,640 students, including 32,642 from primary schools, began their 2023/2024 school sessions throughout Sarawak today.

Sarawak State Education Department deputy director Omar Mahli stated the Ministry of Education (MoE) introduced the concept of a much more interesting first week at school for the new session.

“We want the school to implement much happier, more interesting activities to get them even more excited to head back to school,” he said.

“We want the programmes to be beneficial for the students, and we also include some fun game elements, which I believe would attract the students in the process,” he said when met by reporters after monitoring the first day academic session at Sekolah Kebangsaan Petra Jaya here today.

He hoped the activities would unite them regardless of their racial and social background.

“Plus, we no longer stop the parents from entering the school, and we encourage them to participate in the activities that the schools have implemented,” he added.
