41 drug pushers held, drugs worth over RM10,000 seized

SERIAN: Forty-one drug dealers and pushers, including a woman, and drugs worth more than RM10,000, were seized in a series of raids conducted here  today.

State Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) chief Supt Sahar Abd Latif said the 41 suspects aged between 15 and 50 were arrested following an integrated operation carried out at 19 villages in this division.

“This is a very successful operation because we initially aimed to arrest only 28 drug pushers listed in this division based on information gathered through our surveillance.

“Two of the 41 suspects have been detained under the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act, 1985,” Sahar told a press conference at the District Police Headquarters here.

He also pointed out that the one-day operation which started at 5.30am saw a total of 23 teams deployed comprising 101 narcotics police officers and personnel from the state police headquarters assisted by several personnel from the district police headquarters.

“The drugs seized were syabu weighing 53.6 grammes and marijuana weighing 6.3 grammes with a street value of RM10,715. Apart from that, we also seized a shotgun and a sword,” he added.

Sahar said that during the operation, a man in his 40s, his son in his 20s and five nephews aged between 15 and 20 years were also arrested.

“During the arrest, we were sad to see the whole family involved in drug-related activities,” he said.

Commenting further, Sahar said the suspects would be investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act, 1952, Section 12(2) of the same Act, Section 6 of the same Act, Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act, Section 8 of the Firearms Act,1960 and Section 6 of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act, 1958.

He also urged members of the public to give their full cooperation to the police by providing relevant information relating to drug-related activities in their areas in the fight against drug abuse.
