42-year-old man is latest victim of Covid-19

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded one Covid-19 related death involving a 42-year-old man on Sunday (Jan 17).

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the man (Case 2,065) was admitted to Miri Hospital on Jan 13 due to unconsciousness and he was declared dead on Jan 14.

It said a swab test was taken on Jan 14 and the result was found positive for Covid-19 on Jan 16.

The patient was also suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure and Hepatitis A.

SDMC however said until further clinical investigation is completed, the death is categorised as not caused by Covid-19 infection even though the case has been found to be positive for the disease.

As such the total death toll caused by Covid-19 in the state remains at 19.

Meanwhile, SDMC said the status of Meradong and Julau districts in Sarikei division has changed from Covid-19 green zone to yellow after four new positive cases were reported in the respective district which involved local transmission.

There were 95 new person-under-investigation (PUI) cases reported with 36 awaiting laboratory results today.

The committee also reported that 182 person-under-surveillance (PUS) were registered into 63 hotels and quarantine centres statewide to undergo quarantine, bringing the total number of PUS at such centres to 6,039.

A total of 52,721 PUS had completed their quarantine period and allowed to return home.
